Rooney- although I think a large part of that was due to having all his flair coached out of him at Man U. In 2004 he looked like he was going to be a world beating phenomenal player.
Definitely no doubt he hasn't taken his career quite as seriously or put in as much work as the likes of Ronaldo to be the very best, though.
Ronaldo and Messi are the perfect examples. All the talent in the world but combined with the drive to be the best. It's probably helped both of them elevate to new heights having the other as a nemesis.
